Bright skies with a touch of grey

Im redoing the living room in shades of grey and yellow, something Ive always wanted to try out.

The yellow and grey table runner I ordered online sits pretty on the armchair

Fishnet doodle is done!!

Trellis mirror

A bored saturday afternoon, some yellow elastic tape and some crazy thoughts running through my head

Chevron pillow case

With an overdose of the ubiquitous Chevron pattern on pinterest, blogger, instagram and various other places, I swore I would never have anything to do with it. But what fun is it if you dont break your own resolution!

I was in the middle of doing a grey and yellow living room when the Aha! moment happened. I just happened to have an old kurta which I hadnt worn for the longest time. So naturally it had to be revamped.

Sometimes my husband accuses me of the opposite of hoarding. I dispose off of anything I havent used in the previous six months. His clothes usually fall prey more often than mine. May be he has a point ;)

Had an old chair cushion which was soft and pliable. I bent it in half and sewed the ends together to make a sort of lumbar pillow. It is firm yes, but probably not the most comfortable I must confess.

I then cut the bottom part of the kurta- which is roughly a square cloth and sewed three edges to make the cover.

Havent decided on how to fasten the cushion though..for now I just folded the ends inside the pillow.
Very amateurish I know.

Will put up pictures of the living room soon..

Fishnet doodle coming up soon..

The Buddha head

I remembered I never really gave a breakdown of my spray painted Buddha head on my living room wall

Its been two years since I did it and the pictures are not optimal, but what the heck, here it goes..

The nice husband had got me - get this- 50 shades of spray paint as a birthday gift two years ago :)
Ya he knows me well..

The wall is about 12x10 ft
cleaned it first with damp cloth

I did not do primer coz I was feeling lazy..I know it will bite my behind sometime.

Painted it matte black after taping off the edges

Let it dry thoroughly

I downloaded a picture of a Buddha head I liked from the internet

I did a free hand of the head with gold spray paint first. I figured if it didnt work, I can always paint over it.

Fortunately I fluked and managed to get a decent image on the wall ( yeah first timers luck and all)

I used three shaded of gold- metallic, matte and bronze

Once the image was on, the only thing left to do was to play around with the shading

Some gold here some black there to tease out the features

Finally added a ring of turquoise coz my all time favourite combo is turquoise and gold - ya how decadent!

And Voila!

A Spa birthday party was had..

Miki turned ten on Jan 9 this year. Isnt it amazing how much you grow after becoming a parent?
Its the easiest job to mess up isint it!!
Every day you learn something new about yourself just by the virtue of being a parent.

So as tradition went, we celebrated the 9th of Jan in India at her grand parent's place. Naturally we had to celebrate again with her friends just so the Universe could maintain order.

Hence it was decided we would have a  spa themed party, what with Miki being a pre teen and all ( who comes up with this stuff?!!)

And so  the whole of last week saw us scampering for ideas
We finally managed to rummage through various blogs and decided on a few.
I must say people are CREATIVE !!

Preparations took up the whole of last week
Like planning the menu, activities and shopping for supplies

It was the Chinese new year weekend and that meant most shops were closed for the holiday for three days and we had to stock up supplies before hand like craft supplies for activities, food and giveaways.
Most of my 'free time' at work was spent personalising giveaways and more shopping.

Finally THE  day arrived and so did the girls, all squealy and excited.
They were proudly shown around our small aprtment by the young hostess before they all made a bee line to the jacuzzi ( ya very grown up!!)

Ribena was served in plastic wine goblets and there was a lot of clinking heard therafter ;)

Cold towels served as a respite from the late afternoon sun- It was thankfully a gorgeous sunny day

They spent about an hour in the warm waters before getting back to their squealing selves.

The girls each got a pair of spa slippers and a water bottle to keep them cool

Having graduated from the jacuzzi with flying towels

They proceeded to the pool for some more fun of marco polo

More shower fun and dressing up later, they had their fill of parantha and butter chicken and ofcourse some gorgeous red velvet cup cakes.

After that they sat down to make their own beauty supplies-

Lip balm with vaseline,  eye shadow and food colour

Body glitter with unscented cream, cosmetic gold dust and a few drops of aromatic oil'

Bath salts with rock salt, food colour and food essence/ aromatic oil

The girls decorated their personalised lip balm and body glitter containers with glitter pens, Washi tape and sequins

We even tried to make our own bracelet cuffs with ice cream sticks
Sorry I have no pics of that

First You need to soak the ice cream sticks in warm water for about 48 hours (YUP!)
When they begin to get soft, try gently bending them into a C shape
You put this C shaped cuff into a glass tumbler for a couple of hours to hold the shape
Voila! U have your cuff!

We had done a fruit and yogurt creamsicle ( Blend a cup of strawberry yoghurt, 2 bananas, and some raspberries, add honey and freeze in popsicle molds) but they didnt set in time for the party. We shouldve done them atleast 24 hours before. Never mind that,

It was a fun packed birthday party and the girls had a blast !

All you need is change..

"Such is the state of life, that none are happy but by the anticipation of change: the change itself is nothing; when we have made it, the next wish is to change again. The world is not yet exhausted; let me see something tomorrow which I never saw be" ( Copy pasted from the internet)

Of course I was rearranging my furniture!

The chaise is now horizontal and facing the TV
Added a zebra print throw on the sectional
Removed the carpet from under the blocks

The gold arm chairs face each other now

Want to slap the round coaster into its place

The mirrors on either side of the TV console are reflecting the opposite wall
Kind of looks busy doesnt it? ( despite the heavy editing :P)

 Yup it does look busy
oh well! Theres always next weekend

And the patio got some new friends ( Craigslist finds :))

What do you think?
Should I keep it this way or rearrange?
Any suggestions ?

Time flies and So do Butterflies :P

Some people find butterflies creepy
I sometimes fall in that category
Especially when they are in a swarm

But of late Ive been seeing some really cute projects on pinterest

Somehow it seems butterfly wall art has a life of its own
Robust and full of energy
Like the butterflies can unswirl at any moment and spill out of the art and land on your face

Img from pinterest

or am I being too dramatic!

Tried something on a smaller scale in Mikis bedroom using scrap book paper and hot glue

Plan to do this soon...
